Originally I intended for Boolite to have a 130,000 bushel Geelong type cement silo with a steel annex bin (based on silo arrangement at Yaapeet). As the silos are situated at the front of the layout the size of the 130,000 bushel silo made it difficult to manually change the points at the northern end of the yard and also acted to hide the Mallee trees along the main street.
Recently I decided to change the silos with one that I had stored away from my previous layout. This silo is 65,000 bushel Geelong type cement silo based on the silo at Batchica (which is the first silo north of Warracknabeal on the Hopetoun line).
I also had a number of steel bins that I hadn't finished with the ladders and handrails. These are made from milo tins covered with styrene strip with the peaked roof made out of cardboard. I based the platform and ladder arrangement on photos that I took 20 years ago of the silo at Salisbury Loop on the Western mainline.
The pipes that connect the 65,000 bushel Geelong type cement silo to the two steel annex bins is made from rod that was in my junk box, with small slices of tube used for the joins. Florist wire is used for the support post.
As the 65,000 bushel silo is narrower than the larger 130,000 bushel silo that was previously used I have also added a concrete pad for the discharge pit for road truck deliveries. I'll add further details for the discharge pit over the coming weeks.
