Grain Silos

Originally I intended for Boolite to have a 130,000 bushel Geelong type cement silo with a steel annex bin (based on silo arrangement at Yaapeet). As the silos are situated at the front of the layout the size of the 130,000 bushel silo made it difficult to manually change the points at the northern end of the yard and also acted to hide the Mallee trees along the main street. Recently I decided to change the silos with one that I had stored away from my previous layout. This silo is 65,000 bushel Geelong type cement silo based on the silo at Batchica (which is the first silo north of Warracknabeal on the Hopetoun line). I also had a number of steel bins that I hadn't finished with the ladders and handrails. These are made from milo tins covered with styrene strip with the peaked roof made out of cardboard. Cattleyards

Cattleyards are situated on the dead end siding at the southern end of Boolite yard. Yesterday I decided to replace the yards with new ones more closely following the prototype. The original yards were damaged when I dropped a hammer on them while fixing a point in the yard. The new yards are made out of 20 thou styrene strip, pieces of old rail and styrene sheet of rivets. The yards follow the standard VR plan (F371A). Rail has been painted Humbrol Matt 70 while the timber is painted with a mix of Humbrol 110 and 64. I'll weather the yards with powders at a later date. For the yards I now just need a prized Mallee bull waiting the delivery a M cattle wagon for loading.
